Yorkshire, England. The year is 1888.

You were but a distant cousin to the illustrious Valdemar family, a sister of a cousin's father-in-law from a less genteel branch fortunate enough to be grandfathered in by the kindness of elderly Lady Laura Valdemar and her husband themselves. You read. You sew. You take tea in the parlours by rain and stroll the beautiful, sprawling gardens of Aungier House by shine, surrounded on all sides by lush purple moorland.

By night, though, you dream- and in your dreams you see a life that couldn't possibly be, a life that becomes more and more disturbingly familiar with every passing day. They say that you've known these people all of your life; why, then, do they feel so alien to you? How can it be that the footman is so much more familiar than your own family? Why don't any the details add up at all? Wasn't your tutor someone completely different only yesterday?

Suddenly your fresh start doesn't seem a blessing so much as it does a curse- and just as you begin to wonder if you can trust any of your senses at all, it dawns on you that maybe Aungier House isn't the answer to all of your midnight prayers.

Maybe you've just found a whole new reason to pray.

[community profile] aungier is a panfandom roleplaying game with a memory-loss premise and heavy gothic horror elements. Set in 1888 in a sleepy English village, Aungier is based in an alternate history in which the Second Industrial Revolution brought on a new, enhanced wave of technological enhancement among the upper echelons: prototypes for much from machines to automatons to very basic computers exist in theory or are being developed.

On acceptance, characters take on a role in the game's world find themselves on the doorstep of the prestigious mansion Aungier House, armed with a suitcase and a head full of false memories, detailing their 19th century life. One character might believe they are Sir Valdemar's youngest grandson, fresh from Eton; another might be a lowly housemaid sent in from the city. Whatever the case, circumstances appear to have brought them into the home of the Valdemar family- but it won't be long before the cracks start to show, especially when the ancestral estate seems beset with increasingly strange and disturbing afflictions.

The game runs on a 7:1 time scale (7 IRL days= 1 in-game day) and primarily uses prose. As the plot progresses and time passes, characters will find their old memories returning and interfering with their day to day life on the estate. While the plot unfolds according to the cast's actions and reactions to their predicament, they will also come up against various horror-themed events.
