"I'm afraid that opening windows will only let more of the damp in, madam Saint Croix," Lyall answers apologetically as he draws open one of the sets of curtains in that hallway, letting in light if not air. He is always a bit careful around the governess, as her rank in the house is not that much higher that his, but she doesn't seem to have any trouble expecting him to obey.
"Though if you do need fresh air," he offers, "I can find a room that will not be too damaged by a bit more moisture, for you to take a respite in."
